We built the Robotics Institute from scratch, #1 in the world, and one of the top Computer Science Departments in the world, without taking offense or defense. We never played the games. It was an immediate not-hiring to violate the “reasonable person principle” which basically said, play no game at all. We judged only by quality of contribution to knowledge and openness to other people who shared our openness to reason. Herb Simon and Allan Newell led with reason and respect for everyone who did not spend their time fighting or defending. You don’t have to be binary to be of worth.
