I don’t think anything was stopped in its tracks… It didn’t move the needle with Trump and his Republican servants. Indeed he said, rightly, that people do believe that nothing done in the open is actually illegal. So he does it in the open. Since this is not a logic argument, and it is certainly not an ethics argument, it is certainly a character argument. Trump is doing the right things because he is Trump after all and Trump has made America Great again, already. What great character! He never really lies or breaks the law. We are misunderstanding something he was saying.
To stop this in its tracks you need to open a means of public dialogue in a court (moderated enforced dialogue). Then the argument will go through all the nooks and crannies it needs to go through in order to put the light everywhere.
