An interesting place to look is South Korea to see what they are doing with the metaverse. First, they are shaping it for the express purpose that people can make a living in it. Second, here are some more thoughts. Fear alone is a bad guide for anything new. Fear itself is worth fearing. This is new.

When we started Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University back in 1979-80, for years people were scared until they figured out to use it. A classic instance was a robot assembler at Cummins Engine. The solution was to only have a plug for electricity (it was not on the network) and it was set up to assist people where a foreman or a manager could NOT see the worker and the machine interacting. Result: the errors in assembly went to nearly zero (which was impossible for either the worker or the robot alone) and the workers loved the assisted assembly robots. The robots were for them to keep them safer and make them more productive and have a more interesting job. They even wound up maintaining the robots because they wanted to.
This was the idea of the managers at the engine plant. It was a great idea. They embraced the technology and respected the people working for them.
