I can't get to the Paranoia article (I've learned the hard way not to sign up for advertising periodicals online that I don't know). That said, I agree with your title more or less. I did recently find a great read/audible on this subject which I regard as probably the best ideological/historical underpinnings of 'this movement.' At least the Republicans and autocracy movement. It is this book. I recommend it because it provides pretty solid answers to how to right the ship of democracy.
